The Queen’s Death Hoax Circulates on Social Media, Buckingham Palace Reacts

Cruel rumors about The Queen of England dying were made as a mockery on social media after a fake WhatsApp group message caused panic among royal fans on Sunday. Screenshots of a message that claimed to provide instructions to the staff at Buckingham Palace surfaced over the weekend. The message also revealed that The Queen died early in the morning and that the official announcement would be made the following day. Buckingham Palace hasn’t officially commented on these rumors, but several royal experts and insiders revealed that the vicious rumors are not true.

However, the prank convinced people and was worried about the Monarch and the future of the Monarchy. The message was revealed by someone with the username “Gibbo.” The message said, “Queens passed away this morning, heart attack, being announced at 9:30am tomorrow. Channel dash 0800 tomorrow in full number 1s.” However, Gibbo’s friends weren’t convinced of this rumor and said, “yer balls, has to be a wind-up.”

Gibbo insisted that the rumor was true. He revealed that the information “just got passed [sic] to me, they did keep the queen mothers [sic] death quiet though for 24 hours.” The last time that royal fans got to see the Queen in public was during her royal duties last week. She was there in attendance for the opening of the new headquarters of the Royal Philatelic Society London, according to the Irish Mirror. Then on Friday, Nov. 29, she shared a message following the terrorist attack on London Bridge which claimed the lives of two victims.

The Queen will also be joined with the other members of the Royal Family to host a NATO event at Buckingham Palace. The event celebrates 70 years of the NATO alliance and will feature numerous world leaders. Royal Central editor Charlie Proctor even took to Twitter to quash the rumors. He wrote, “The Queen is not dead. She is alive and well and is very much looking forward to hosting President Trump and the other world leaders at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday.”

The Buckingham Palace would be the first to make an official announcement if the Queen were to die. If she passes away during the night, her death would not be announced until 8:00 am. Her portrait would be displayed on the BBC along with the national anthem playing. It happened in a similar fashion when Princess Diana passed away in 1977. The BBC would also cancel its comedic programs during a 12-day period of national mourning. In addition, Union Jacks would be flown at half-mast and the London Stock Exchange would be closed.
