King Charles did not spend his life fighting for a cleaner and greener future only for it to be undone by the world leaders who will be flying in for the Queen’s funeral.
According to POLITICO, there’s a strict guidance for foreign dignitaries. No more private jets and helicopters, buses will convey the VIP guests to the funeral service, thank you very much.
“No Private Jets, Please” The Palace Says Ahead Of The Queen’s Funeral On September 19
The Queen’s funeral will be the event of the century for Britain, with many heads of state arriving from all over the world.
Foreign dignitaries attending the event will include US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain, King Willem Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands, Israel’s President Isaac Herzog, alongside the presidents of Brazil, Portugal, Germany, Trinidad and Tobago, Finland and so many others. More heads of state wishing to attend will be confirmed in the following days.
To conserve energy and reduce the pollution associated with the event, foreign heads of state and their spouses heading to London for the state funeral have been asked to travel to the UK on commercial flights. Furthermore, they are banned from using helicopters to get around.
To top it all off, individual heads of state will not be using their own state cars to attend the funeral at Westminster Abbey on September 19 – and will instead be bussed together with a vehicle provided and stationed at the site in west London.
“Can you imagine Joe Biden on the bus?” one foreign ambassador was said to complain via WhatsApp message early Sunday.
According to POLITICO, official documents state that only the heads of state and their spouses have been invited to attend the funeral, which is predicted to be the most significant international event hosted by Britain in recent times.
The Queen’s Funeral Service At Westminster Abbey Will Be So Packed Only Limited International Dignitaries Could Be Invited
According to reports, Westminster Abbey will be so packed with attendees that only a single, senior representative per country and their spouse can be able to attend. Regarding the limited spots, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) lamented in the official protocol message.
In the document, sent to overseas embassies late Saturday night, the department said it “regrets that, because of limited space at the state funeral service and associated events, no other members of the principal guest’s family, staff or entourage may be admitted.”
Heads of state unable to attend may then choose someone else as their official representative, such as a head of government or senior minister.
