While Prince William might have a better relationship with his father King Charles now, that hasn’t always been the case. 

In fact, there was a time when the Prince of Wales was much closer to Kate Middleton’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, than to the King of England. And it seems like there was a good reason for it, too.

That’s because the Middletons managed to take Prince William under their wing while King Charles was just a little too busy for his son. At least, that’s how one royal author is putting it.

As many royal fans know, Prince William and Kate Middleton got married in 2011, but they were dating on and off for more than a decade.

During that time, the Prince of Wales got to know Kate’s family and grew particularly close to her parents. And for that reason alone, it seems like William is very grateful to them.

Royal Family News – What’s Next For Prince William?

One source close to the situation even put it this way, “They took him [Prince William] under their wing from the very beginning and provided the kind of family atmosphere he had never had and probably yearned for.”

“Lots of laughs, lots of family games and sharing of outdoor pursuits as a family. Just being there for him when his own father was far too busy and unable to provide this.”

“This has made him very ‘family conscious’ which was exactly what King Charles wanted for him as he never had it himself.”

And while the Middletons might have somewhat of an influence over Prince William, it’s not as strong as the one that the monarchy still has over him.

“The royal side will always come out on top however influential your family is or has been. William is very family-minded because of this but he can’t beat the system.”
