The beautiful photos were shared on the royal family’s official Instagram with this caption “Today, on #InternationalWomensDay, we are showcasing the Royal Family’s longstanding support for female photographers which stretches back as far as the advent of photography in the mid-1800s.”
International Women’s Day in The UK
The photo of Queen Camilla was taken in 2020 when she was titled the Duchess of Cornwall. It is a striking portrait of one of the world’s most powerful and famous women and she looks every inch a woman to be reckoned with.
It is a solo view of the woman who became Ling Charles’ second wife and overcame the scorn of a nation.
In the portrait Camilla sits stoically in a serious dress, her blue eyes twinkling as she gazes off to space. Queen Camilla’s body language is casual, not posed, and we are reminded that she is a private woman with a family, a historical role, and an image that has been carefully reworked.
Queen Camilla Has Overcome The Doubters

PureWow’s Phillip Mutz noted that the portrait speaks volumes about the queen: “We’re used to seeing her smiling while out and about at royal events, however, her smile here is fully genuine and dare I say stress-free (clearly a royal outing introduces a number of stressors that a portrait sitting does not).”
Of course Camilla’s life has not been stress free as of late. Last year her beloved husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer and he continues to receive treatment. It did not stop the couple living their best lives however, and they undertook a royal tour of Australia last summer.

Queen Camilla Will Go Down in History

The portrait was taken years before Covid, before the death of Queen Elizabeth, and before the dirty playbook thrown at the monarchy by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
It is a glimpse into the past, when times were kinder and gentler for the woman who would one day become queen. If you could go back in time and ask Camilla one question, what would it be?
