Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s new ‘Polo’ Netflix series has failed to thrill both audiences and critics. The reception has been so poor that sources are claiming Netflix is more than underwhelmed, especially since the show was to be to Polo what ‘Living Golf’ was to the game of Golf.
Sadly, critics have all but trashed the series and there’s very little excitement from the side of fans.
Even though there’s still Meghan’s cooking show to test the waters, many believe this may be the final nail in the coffin when it comes to Harry and Meghan retaining that lucrative contract they signed with Netflix.
Prince Harry’s ‘Polo’ Docuseries Could Tank Like His Previous Project
With the very poor reception ‘Polo’ is receiving, Harry notches his second underperforming project with Netflix, following his documentary on the Invictus Games.
“The new polo documentary hasn’t received good reviews, and this is another foray into producing from Meghan and Harry,” royal expert and commentator Nick Ede told the Daily Mail.
Even though rumors of Netflix dumping the pair as soon as their contract expires in 2025 has been haunting the couple for months now, Ede believes ‘Polo’ could be the major determinant regarding whether Netflix wants to continue the partnership or cut their losses, like Spotify had done.
“All eyes will be on whether the show rates and makes the very important Top 10. It could, like the Invictus documentary, start well due to the public’s fascination with the pair and with polo potentially.”
The thing is that ‘Polo’ arrived during the Christmas season, so it had a list of holiday shows and new releases, like ‘Black Doves,’ to go against. “This could potentially be a nail in the coffin for their deal with the streaming giant who now use algorithms to make sure their programming is perfect for their subscribers,” he added.
Harry and Meghan are yet to publicly react to the low interest ‘Polo’ is currently generating, despite having executive produced the show.
However, before the Sussexes truly say goodbye to Netflix – if indeed they won’t renew come 2025 – Meghan still has a cooking and wellness show coming up. It will reportedly officially launch her lifestyle brand American Riviera Orchard, which she recently appointed herself the CEO of.
