A report reveals that Prince William had an interesting request for his grandmother after his wedding to Kate Middleton in 2011; however, it ended up being declined. More on this story, below.
Prince William’s Request To His Grandmother
As per a report by The Telegraph, Prince William made an interesting request to Queen Elizabeth after he and Kate said their “I do’s”.
William was hoping to use ‘Prince William’ as his name after he and Kate got married, with her official name becoming ‘Princess Catherine’. He did not want to use the Duke of Cambridge and Duchess of Cambridge titles. Sadly, for William, The Queen didn’t agree to what was asked, and the request was denied.
The Queen’s Reasoning For Decline
While William may not have been happy with Queen Elizabeth’s answer, there is good reason for it. According to Royal historian, Kenneth Rose, princesses generally receive their titles when born into the family and not through marriage. In addition, it is up to the Queen to decide what title is given.

Rose notes that while there have been a couple of exceptions over the years, as Kate is a “commoner” she could not be referred to as Princess Catherine at the time after her wedding.
It’s important to note that after Prince Henry, the Duke of Gloucester passed away, The Queen did provide the Duchess of Gloucester, the ‘Princess Alice’ title. Still, this was a way to knowledge Alice’s many years of loyal service.
Being new to the Royal Family, Kate would have to wait for the Princess Catherine title, and it was not given after she married William. Instead, she officially became Princess William of Wales, the feminine version of her husband’s title, as well as the Duchess of Cambridge.
The Queen passed away in September 2022 and King Charles, her son, took over her throne.

Does nobody else think this line of reasoning is absolutely mental and completely deranged?
The title of princess seems to be automatic with being the the wife of the prince of a particular country, ie when William would become prince of Wales, Catherine would be become princess of Wales.
