Prince PhilipThe rumor going around is that Queen Elizabeth has a favorite daughter-in-law, and that is Sophie Wessex. Now the rumor mill is churning again to speculate that Prince Philip has shown favoritism to one of the couple’s sons.

Oddly enough, both seem to favor the same couple! That’s because, according to royal biographer Richard Kay, the Duke of Edinburgh has a soft spot for Prince Edward, husband to Sophie.

Is Edward Really His Dad’s Favorite Son?

According to Kay, the queen’s youngest son enjoys a special bond with his father that may be a tad closer than the rest of his siblings. In the Channel 5 documentary Edward & Sophie: The Reluctant Royals? he explained that youngest child Edward is a favorite in part because Philip was there for his child’s birth.

Sheds Light Of The Royal Family Dynamics

According to writer Ayesha Hazarik, “I think it’s fair to say that he was very the baby of the family. He really was the apple of the Queen’s eye.”

Documentary narrator Glynis Barber says, “Prince Philip also built a strong relationship with his youngest son.”

Chiming in Kay echoed these sentiments adding, “Edward was a particular favorite of his father, the Duke of Edinburgh. There was a strong bond between father and son right from the get-go.”

Royal watcher Ingrid Seward said this of the royal family dynamic: “He was the first of the four children that Prince Philip was actually there at the bedside during the birth. The world had moved on and he was more of a modern father.”

What Is It Like To Be A Favorite Child In One’s Family?

Barber tried to shed light on what it may have been like to be Edward in the midst of his royal upbringing: “Treated differently to his older siblings, Edward became a sensitive child but when the time came for him to start school he was forced on to the same strict royal path as his brothers.”

This means that Edward followed in his elder brothers’ wake by joining the military after graduating from Cambridge University in 1986 with a BA in History.

I was the baby of 7 kids and everyone said I was spoiled and got what I wanted. Mom said by the time I was born she was tired of arguing so she just gave in.
I'm happy to hear that Edward is Phillip's favorite. They all seem so detached most of the time. I wish over the years we had seen more of Edward but he never wanted the limelight so always stayed out of it. Some people forget they even had Edward.
