After all, shrouded in mystery and legend for thousands of years, the history of Ethiopia dates back to the time of King Solomon and the legends of the Queen of Sheba. 90 Day Fiance Season 3 fans saw that Ariela shared a video clip of her feeding the hyenas at night. Not only that, but she fed them off of a small stick placed in her mouth. Certainly, it looked quite dangerous. In fact, a number of fans noticed that they seem much bigger than they expected. Actually, the African Wildlife Foundation points out that there are three different types: “The spotted, brown, and striped.” Most folks think of them as timid scavengers, but on occasion, they do hunt. Opportunistic, they will even kill kids or rip the face off a sleeping person.

When Ariela Weinberg share her video on Instagram, she sat next to an Ethiopian and he whistled and called the animals out of the darkness. Well, they are extremely powerful animals and could easily scar her for life if they bit the alarmingly close face of Ariela.

Actually, they certainly do attack people, but their natural timidness often makes them back down from fully grown adults. These days, humans tend to encroach more into their territory, so occasion conflict arises with the animals. However, the story BTS with the ones that the 90 Day Fiance star fed goes back to recent history.

The Hyena Men Of Harar, Ethiopia

Another person who experienced the same feeding experience as Ariela, from 90 Day Fiance, shared the history behind it. Wandering Trader reported that “the history of Hararis (people of Harar) and hyenas are deeply rooted into the culture and folklore of the city.” The local people believe that they chase away the bad spirits  Apparently, local farmers started feeding the animal to prevent them from stealing their livestock. Now that they become used to humans, they seem quite happy to take the bits of meat from them.

However, don’t try it alone as the Hyena men are spiritual prophets and need to run through the ritual with you.  In fact, you can do it most nights. All you have to do is take a taxi to the outskirts of Harar.
