All My Children Star Cause of Death Revealed By Co-Star

It’s always sad to hear the passing of someone who has sort of become a TV constant in our lives. On Wednesday, November 1, Peter White died at his Los Angeles home aged 86.

The star was most widely known for originating the role of Alan McCarthy in the groundbreaking off-Broadway play, “The Boys in the Band.”

For many years, he had a recurring stint in soaps drama “All My Children,” and appeared in several other TV shows including, “The X-Files,” “The Jeffersons,” “Hart to Hart,” “Dynasty,” “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” “The West Wing” and “Ally McBeal.”

Peter White Reportedly Died From Melanoma At His Los Angeles Home

On Saturday, White’s “All My Children” co-star, Kathleen Noone, who played Ellen Shepherd Dalton on the beloved soap, announced on Saturday, November 4 that the beloved actor had died four days earlier from melanoma.

When White joined “All My Children,” he stepped into the role of Lincoln “Linc” Tyler, becoming the fourth actor to portray the character. 2005 was the last time he appeared on the show, though he was never more than a recurring character. However, his portrayal of Linc was praised by fans and critics alike.

In 2008, he told Soap Opera Digest that his time on “All My Children” was the best period for soap.

“I started on the show around 1974,” he said at the time, adding, “When Eileen [Herlie] came on and we all realized we were going to have our storylines together … forgive me for saying this, but that’s when soaps — [including] All My Children — were really good.”

White’s soap career was not restricted to the ABC daytime program, as he landed the role of Arthur Cates on the first two seasons of “The Colbys” in the mid-1980s. From 1991 to 1996, he played the recurring character, Dr. Thomas Reed, on “Sisters.”

In 2010, White appeared in filmmaker Crayton Robey’s making-of The “Boys in the Band” documentary, “Making the Boys.”
