Chicago Med Spoilers: Will Halstead Cliffhanger – Nick Gehlfuss Casting News!

Chicago MedChicago Med has succeeded in captivating viewers with its blend of multi-dimensional characters and riveting plots.

But one character in particular caught our attention during the season 6 finale. Will Halstead has become the  Dennis the Menace of Chicago Med, the guy who just can’t seem to escape trouble.

And the cliffhanger that served as the last episode of season 6 left us wondering: Would Will survive?

Thanks to some recent casting scoops, we just might have the answer!

Chicago Med Announces Casting For Seasons 7 And 8

Will Chicago Med leave viewers in suspense over that cliffhanger ending until well into season 7? Maybe not.

The show just unveiled casting news that affects the main stars for the next two seasons, reported Deadline.

Actress S. Epatha Merkerson and actors Oliver Platt, Nick Gehlfuss and Brian Tee all inked contracts that will keep them on board Chicago Med through seasons 7 and 8. The show itself has a three-season commitment, with two seasons remaining.

And although we’ll miss the two stars who left Chicago Med (Yaya DaCosta and Torrey DeVitto), the fact that Gehlfuss, who portrays ER supervising attending doctor Halstead, will return to Chicago Med indicates that he’ll survive the finale’s dramatic cliffhanger

How Chicago Med Season 7 Debut Could Prove Fateful For Will Halstead After Cliffhanger Ending

Sharon Goodwin ( played by Merkerson), Gaffney Chicago Medical Center’s chief administrator, manages her job with a fine blend of compassion and administrative expertise. But not even Goodwin could put on blinders when Will seemed to betray all the clinical trial guidelines.

As a result, Chicago Med viewers watched in dismay as Halstead got fired. But the episode also offered some resolution. We know that Natalie (portrayed by the departing Torrey DeVitto) did get honest about the drug scandal.

That leaves the season 7 debut of Chicago Med with the opportunity to end the suspense of that cliffhanger. Although Goodwin may emotionally understand why Will lied, her profession requires to make him pay some sort of penalty.

But given that Nick Gehlfuss has signed for the next two seasons of Chicago Med, we’re predicting that he will remain on staff. Moreover, although DeVitto has left the show, it’s quite possible that she filmed some scenes that could be woven into the season 7 debut that helps to save Will’s career.

Viewers will find out just how Chicago Med writers tie up all those loose ends when the show airs on NBC this fall. The medical drama is scheduled to return to its 8 p.m. ET time slot on Wednesdays , serving as the lead-in show to Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. at 9 p.m. and 10 p.m.
