Arthur W. Forney and Peter Jankowski for Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television will executive produce the series. The Law & Order spinoff series does not have a title.
It originated from the nine-figure deal that Wolf signed with Universal Television back in February 2020. The deal lasts five years and includes multiple platforms as well as multiple shows. Matt Olmstead, who previously worked as showrunner of Chicago P.D., is said to write and run the new crime drama.
Meloni was the male opposite lead to Mariska Hargitay for the first 12 seasons of Law & Order: SVU. Meloni’s Stabler and Hargitay’s Olivia Benson played best friends and partners until Stabler retired from the police force in Season 12. Since both shows are set in New York City, it’s likely that a crossover will happen. Law & Order: SVU fans are excited about Meloni’s return to the series. Many of them took to Twitter to express their excitement.
Meloni has not confirmed his return to the Law & Order universe. But the actor simply teased the news with a simple tweet. He told the fan to “sleep tight.” Meloni left Law & Order: SVU in 2011. He since starred in the Fox comedy Surviving Jack, the Syfy series Happy!, and the WGN America series Underground. He also appeared on HBO’s True Blood and Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale.
Law & Order: SVU spinoff series does not have a release date.
