Freddie Highmore Takes First Role Since The Good Doctor

The ABC series The Good Doctor, starring Freddie Highmore, ended in May of 2024, and had some fans wondering what was next for star Freddie Highmore, well, we now have our answer in the form of Amazon Prime series .

It promises to be a very different role from The Assassin type that we’re used to seeing him in, in this series he plays the estranged son of a retired assassin, Julie (Keeley Hawes, Bodyguard), who has a frustratingly distant relationship with her son. He has come to find out answers about his paternity and is having a hard time figuring out just when to bring up the question when Julie’s past comes back to haunt her and they have to end up fleeing the island together.

Highmore Returning To His Roots?

Before The Good Doctor, where he played an autistic physician, Highmore was in The Bates Motel, which was a prequel to the 1960’s Hitchcock movie “Psycho”. He portrayed Norman Bates himself, a role originated by Anthony Perkins in the 60’s.

So, this new series is definitely right up his alley when it comes to roles. He should fit right in as the son of a former assassin.

So far, every role that Highmore has chosen has been more dramatically different than the next, one wonders what his process for choosing roles actually is and if he intended to challenge himself or if it just winds up that way. Either way we look forward to seeing what he will bring to this series.

Very Versatile Talent

He doesn’t just stop at acting though! He is also an executive producer on the series. According to the head of Prime video UK, Hannah Blythe, she highly praised the series, created by Bodyguard’s Harry and Jack Williams.

“As soon as Harry and Jack shared their vision for The Assassin, we knew it would resonate perfectly with our audience. The Assassin promises to deliver a high-stakes thriller with a dynamic mother-son relationship at its core packed with twists and turns that will keep our audience hooked from start to finish. We can’t wait for our customers to immerse themselves in this gripping new series.”

Release date? What Release Date?

Highmore isn’t the only star in the roster, apparently the series has also cast Gina Gershon, Shalom Blume-Franklin, Jack Davenport, Alan Dale, Gerald Kyd, Devon Terrell, Richard Dormer, and David Dencik. Further cast will be announced at a later date.

Right now there is no release date to speak of, but once filming starts it will only be a matter of time before they announce the release date so hopefully fans won’t have to wait too long. We look forward to this new series, stay tuned!!!
