A Game of Thrones star just teased the show’s alternate ending. It turns out the HBO series shot an alternative ending, according to actor Kristofer Hivju. It’s been several months since the fantasy series, based on George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novel, ended its eight-year run. However, Game of Thrones is still making headlines to this day. Even though it has since ended, new information has popped up regarding the finale. It turns out there was an alternate ending that both the cast and crew filmed.
The original 80-minute finale was filled with twists and turns. The first half of the episode focused on Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) going nuts as the Mad Queen and burning King’s Landing the ground. Before she sat on the Iron Throne, she was killed by Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) who said that she wasn’t the kind of queen that her country needed. The rest of the characters then focused on rebuilding their country and choosing a new leader, Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright).
The Game of Thrones finale was disappointing for many fans. Some were hoping to see a woman rule the country instead. Hijvu revealed to Metro that they “shot an alternate ending.” While he wouldn’t give any details, he said that the other version “was mostly for fun but I don’t know if I’m allowed to tell you about that.” Hijvu remained tight-lipped during the interview. He probably wants to stay on HBO’s good side.
The other version was just filmed for fun. HBO had no serious plans in mind for that ending. But some fans would wonder why HBO devoted this much time and planning to an alternate ending if it wasn’t going to end up on the small screen. Game of Thrones has already received its share of criticism for rushing the storylines and giving men most of the credit.
No matter what, Game of Thrones fans would be interested in seeing an alternate ending. HBO could release as a special in the near future. Or, they could roll it out on the internet. Of course, this could come with its share of risk as fans could respond more positively to this ending. What are your thoughts on Game of Thrones having an alternative ending?
