Hondo Lives On! Shemar Moore Shares Exciting Scoop on the 'S.W.A.T. Exiles' Spin-OffS.W.A.T. spoilers and updates reveal even though the flagship show came to an end with the season eight finale, it won’t be the last of the franchise.

Shemar Moore, who played Sergeant II Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson Jr. has confirmed a spinoff titled S.W.A.T. Exiles is in the works!

Big News For Fans On Moore’s Instagram Account

S.W.A.T. was an adaptation of the 1975 series of the same name; actor Shemar Moore played Sergeant II Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson Jr., who leads the LAPD’s Special Weapons and Tactics unit.

The series, which premiered in 2017, lasted for eight seasons-however, the series proper aired its conclusion on May 16, 2025. That said, Moore himself shared that wasn’t the last fans will see of him as Hondo.

In a post on Instagram, Moore shared, “You heard it here first, Hondo’s not done yet. Be on the lookout for S.W.A.T EXILES – he’s back not just to lead, but to rebuild; new recruits. no second chances.”

Moore Posted A Video Message With The Happy Announcement

In a video message, Moore shared “Today’s a great day; Shemar Moore in the building-eight years strong.” He continued to thank his fans, “To all my homies, fans, baby girls, to everybody out there around the world who have supported us for eight years, first of all, thank you. Thank you, we couldn’t’ve done this without you; I know the sad news is we got canceled-but the good news is, we don’t stop fighting. And guess what happens when you don’t stop fighting; we won, S.W.A.T. ain’t going nowhere, Hondo ain’t going nowhere-there’s a new version of S.W.A.T. coming your way. Yeah, I said it…It’s gonna be called S.W.A.T. EXILES, Hondo, back in the building, S.W.A.T. back in the building; starts shooting this summer, say it loud, say it proud.

The Official Synopsis Has Been Released According To TV Line

According to TV Line, Sony has released the official synopsis for the series. As it read, “After a high-profile mission goes sideways, Hondo is pulled out of forced retirement to lead a last-chance experimental SWAT unit made up of untested, unpredictable young recruits.

Hondo must bridge a generational divide, navigate clashing personalities, and turn a squad of outsiders into a team capable of protecting the city and saving the program that made him who he is.”

According to the actor, “My eight seasons on S.W.A.T. have been epic and memorable. We entertained the world, defied the odds, came back from the dead twice, and continued to woo fans and families worldwide.

The Series Is Set For Ten Episodes, Although Not Yet Attached To A Network Or Streaming Service

The spin-off is currently set for ten episodes, and production will start this summer in Los Angeles, with Jason Ning serving as showrunner.

At this time, the series isn’t attached to a U.S. network or streaming service; Moore also released another statement over the spin-off. “I am excited for this next generation and iteration of S.W.A.T. with Sony.

Katherine Pope, Neal H. Moritz, Jason Ning and I will keep the franchise, thrill ride action, heartfelt drama, and storytelling of S.W.A.T. alive. WE DON’T LOSE!!!! ROLL SWAT!!!”

Showrunner Jason Ning Also Made A Statement

Ning also shared, “I couldn’t be more thrilled to partner with Sony to bring S.W.A.T. EXILES to life. It’s an incredible honor to carry forward the legacy of a show that fans around the world have come to love. Working with Shemar Moore, who defines what it means to be a leading man, and introducing a new generation of characters into this world is a dream.”

Even though the series hasn’t been picked up by CBS or Paramount Plus, bear in mind it is still early in the process; it will start filming soon. Then, once there is a first episode, also known as a pilot, the networks will have an example to view and choose.
