“How I Met Your Father” Details
The series is created by Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger (This Is Us) and its first season will feature 10 episodes. The story will take place in the near future, as Sophie (played by Hilary Duff, who recently wrapped filming the “Younger” series) tells her son the story of how she met his father. It will use the series original structure of flashbacks and narrative voice-overs.
The spinoff will be set in New York City (though filming will take place in Los Angeles), just like its predecessor, with flashbacks to 2021 happening throughout the series.
The plot sees Sophie and her friends navigate their futures by trying to find out who they are, and navigating the world of dating – dating apps included – in the city. Duff is also serving as a producer on the show, which will be executive produced by “How I Met Your Mother” creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, alongside Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger.
After “How I Met Your Mother” wrapped its finale season run, fans of the show have been dying for a spinoff that will catapult them into the familiar world of the show.
At this point, there is no confirmation regarding the appearance of anyone from the original cast of HIMYM, but Duff seems to be open-minded about the possibility. “Hopefully we’ll have some fun guest appearances from the original cast,” she teased.
The show’s premiere date is yet to be revealed, but all ten episodes will be available to stream on Hulu upon its arrival.
Chris Lowell’s Role In The Forthcoming Series
Duff was confirmed for the lead role of Sophie in early May, and Chris Lowell, 36, was announced to be starring opposite Duff’s character on June 16 by Deadline.
Lowell’s character Jesse, who is one of Sophie’s close friends, is described as a smart and edgy guy who is cynical when it comes to love. An aspiring musician, Jesse works as an Uber driver in order to pay his bills, and he lives with a roommate named Tom, whose casting is to be announced.
Lowell is best known for portraying the roles of Stosh “Piz” Piznarski in the television series “Veronica Mars” from 2006-2007 and for his main role as Sebastian “Bash” Howard in the series “GLOW” from 2017-2019.
