Not deterred by those who slammed him for assaulting a BBC producer while filming Top Gear or those who wanted him canceled for dissing Meghan Markle, the famous tongue-in-cheek journalist went on and started Clarkson’s Farm. Aired on Amazon Prime, he won a lot of fans back.

The Grand Tour was another project put together through Amazon Prime, and motoring enthusiasts cheered. Premiering in 2016, the show featured Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond. They brought motoring adventures from many countries and it streamed worldwide. But now, he claimed Zimbabwe was the “best” and they “saved” it “for last.”

Zimbabwe – ‘The Best For Last’

Zimbabwe, as anyone living there can tell you, really is one of the friendliest and safest destinations in Southern Africa. Formerly Rhodesia, many locals can’t afford to visit places like Victoria Falls. But, there are many more stunning destinations in the country, and Jeremy Clarkson showcased places off the beaten track.

When the trailer for the finale of The Grand Tour dropped, many people who live in Zimbabwe were thrilled to see that the journey started in the Eastern Highlands. The synopsis noted the only episode of the sixth series was titled “One for the Road.” And it marked the “end of Clarkson, Hammond, and May’s working collaboration after 22 years.” But, the impact could mark the beginning of a resurgent interest in Zimbabwe as a travel destination.

Praise For Showcasing The Country

Here are some reactions from Zimbabweans to Jeremy Clarkson’s The Grand Tour:

  • @lancedube: ‘God had done all the other countries in the world and he’d got to the end of the alphabet, he got to Z, he got to #Zimbabwe and he thought right, this is gonna be my best work, this is gonna be my greatest’. Grand Tour did a great job showcasing our country.
  • @ItsTaz1989: I must say, the final episode of the Grand Tour may have been the best. Maybe I’m biased because it’s in Zimbabwe & the town I went to secondary school in got a mention, but I enjoyed it & it’s rather sad we won’t get any more of Clarkson, May & Hammond together again. Great TV.
  • @KingJayZim: #GrandTour #Zimbabwe #VisitZimbabwe I’m incredibly proud of my longtime friend and former schoolmate from Ardbennie Primary School and Morgan High, Anthony “Jay Jay” Mutambira AKA Zimbabwean Film Fixer @AMutambira for his role as Location Fixer in the remarkable final episode.
  • @allZimbabwe_” The Grand Tour Bids farewell with Zimbabwe special: A journey through beauty and nostalgia. In a poignant finale that has left fans worldwide in a mix of nostalgia and celebration…”The Grand Tour concluded its run with a special episode set against the breathtaking landscapes of Zimbabwe…this final adventure … highlighted Zimbabwe’s natural beauty, potentially boosting tourism for the country.
