“Well, we’ve got a couple of TV things coming up,” Kelsey admitted. “A possible ‘Frasier’ reboot. We’re getting a script now and we’ve pitched the idea, we’re putting out there.”
Frasier was introduced following the success of Cheers. He moved from Boston to his hometown of Seattle to embark on a new life. In the series, Frasier worked as a radio host. The comedy ran for 11 seasons from 1993 to 2004. It went on to receive critical acclaim and to become one of the most important comedies of our time. Frasier is as popular as Friends and Seinfeld. And fans have been hoping for a revival or reboot of this series.
Kelsey was worried about working on the revival. He didn’t know if the new series would live up to the expectations of fans. The actor wanted to make sure that he was satisfied with the script before the show came into fruition. However, the Frasier revival is in the pre-production phase. There hasn’t been an announcement on casting or a premiere date. During the interview, Kelsey was asked whether he had any doubts about the revival series.
“That was a big part of it,” he admitted. “It’s been a couple of years in the process, but I’m very, very pleased.”
He revealed that the new series will “deal with” the death of actor John Mahoney, who played his on-screen father, Martin.
“The first principle is that it is a different story, basically,” Kelsey said. “Same group of characters but in a different setting. Something has changed in their lives. Certainly, John Mahoney died over a year ago and we would probably deal with a little bit, with dad being gone.”
