But it was rescued by the streaming platform following its cancellation after Season 3. Since it performed well on the streaming service, Netflix renewed Lucifer for Season 5, which was meant to be the final season.

However, due to the show’s growing popularity, the streaming service renewed for a possible Season 6. TVLine reported information from multiple sources that it may not happen due to renegotiations between Ellis and Warner Bros. Television.

Negotiations haven’t gone as easily as expected. Ellis rejected the studio’s latest offer. Though he signed a contract extension that would allow him to star in the lead role for another season. Warner Bros. and Ellis have gone back and forth but have not come to an agreement.

Warner Bros. Studio wants to “sweeten the pot,” but the actor is not happy. The rest of the cast has expressed their desire to return for another season. But their contracts are being held up due to Ellis’ pending deal. Lucifer became a surprise hit for Netflix. Even though it’s popular on the streaming service, the character has been on other shows.

Back in December 2019, during the Arrowverse’s Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event, John Constantine met up with Lucifer to create a magical ritual. Their interaction came as a shock for fans. It also confirmed that Lucifer was part of the Arrowverse canon. Season 5 was supposed to only have 10 episodes, but Netflix added six episodes, bringing the total to 16. Dennis Haysbert also joined the cast as God in the latest season.

However, learning that a new season may not happen due to Ellis’ contract negotiations could be disappointing for fans. It’s important to remain optimistic as negotiations are expected to go through. Fans can cross their fingers as they wait for the arrival of Lucifer Season 5 on Netflix.
