Mark Consuelos landed a guest spot that’s getting fans talking. During the Season 38 premiere of Live with Kelly and Mark, he revealed that he’ll appear in the upcoming 9-1-1 season as a tech billionaire with a very unusual storyline.
Mark’s Character Is Trip
Consuelos plays a character named Trip, a wealthy entrepreneur. He told Kelly Ripa and the Live Kelly audience that he filmed during his downtime, but he didn’t give any other details. Nevertheless, spoilers are starting to leak.
Mark’s character was described by showrunner Tim Minear as “Musk-ish, Bezos-ish.” And apparently, things spiral quickly in the usual 9-1-1 fashion, per Entertainment Weekly.
Trip winds up at the center of an emergency after an encounter with a whale goes very wrong. According to Minear, the character actually gets swallowed by the massive creature. While that might seem a bit farfetched, an incident of that nature really happened in real life, echoing a real-life viral video of kayakers pulled into a whale’s mouth.

In early 2025, a kayaker in Chile had a scary brush with nature when a humpback whale briefly engulfed him. Adrián Simancas, paddling with his father in the Strait of Magellan, was pulled under after the whale surfaced and opened its massive mouth. Luckily, the whale quickly released him, and both men made it safely back to shore.
When Does The Show Premiere?
The episode will serve as the Season 9 premiere, scheduled for October 9, 2025, on ABC. Alongside the bizarre rescue of Mark Consuelos, fans will see how the station moves forward following the emotional loss of Captain Bobby Nash. Kenneth Choi’s character, Chimney, takes on new responsibilities as acting captain, adding another layer of drama to the show.
As usual, Mark Consuelos’ reveal came with the same easy humor he’s known for on Live, but the role shows a different side for him. Playing a larger-than-life billionaire caught in a life-or-death crisis fits perfectly into the franchise’s reputation for high-stakes, and unpredictable rescues.
