Rather than channel his inner superhero, Jack Quaid plans to unveil what he calls his “gigantic superhero nerd” for his new role. And the son of Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan revealed how he prepared for the opportunity. R
ather than consult one of his famous actor parents, Jack headed to Golden Apple Comics in Los Angeles. And there, he immersed himself in Superman For All Seasons. It follows the Man of Steel’s earliest adventures, according to People.
And Quaid also used All-Star Superman, a 12-issue series that takes place during the last days of Superman, to inspire him for his new role. “I’ve always loved superheroes,” admitted Jack. “And the fact that I’ve gotten to play in the Superman world, it’s just been an incredible honor.”
Quaid recalled making his own superhero outfit as a child. He used a Batman cape, sketched the famous Superman triangle on a T-shirt, and then wrote “J” rather than “S” for the typical initial. “I was Super J or Super Jack,” explained the 31-year-old. And he hopes that growing up playing his own childish version of a superhero will help him portray the Man of Steel in the animated show My Adventures with Superman on Adult Swim and Max.

And Quaid didn’t avoid other actors’ versions because he disliked them. Instead, the actor “wanted to find my own take. Everyone who’s been Superman has been absolutely wonderful. I love navigating the two sides of him,” added Jack. “But at his core, keeping him Clark, who’s just this sweet guy who genuinely wants to do good in the world and also wants to be a reporter. I think that he genuinely loves reporting and wants to do the best job that he can.”
And the actor shared that he especially enjoyed the romantic aspect of My Adventures with Superman. As a result of the relationship between Clark and Lois Lane, Quaid felt “really emotional.” And he praised the couple as “so sweet, so genuine.” But he admitted, “I can’t believe I’m rooting for a cartoon romance to happen. Their romance is a tale as old as time.”
