New Amsterdam Returning To NBC

New Amsterdam fans have something to celebrate!  NBC is reportedly resurrecting the popular drama, and a spicy spinoff is in the works at the network. 

Unlike a lot of spinoffs these days, the New Amsterdam series will include some of the original characters.  Keep reading for all the upcoming details and New Amsterdam spoilers.

New Amsterdam – Is Returning

New Amsterdam premiered on NBC in 2018.  Black List star Ryan Eggold played Dr. Maximus Goodwin for five seasons, before the show ended in January 2023. 

Eggold’s character Max became the medical director at Amsterdam Hospital, and was determined to make the ancient hospital a better place for his patients. 

New Amsterdam actually was wildly popular and fans were surprised when the network announced season five would be the final season.

Per a new report from TV Line, “NBC is eyeing a return to New Amsterdam hospital: The network is developing a sequel series centering on Max’s adult daughter Luna Goodwin, written by original series creator David Schulner.

Tentatively titled New Amsterdam: Tomorrow, the potential offshoot will be set 30 years in the future and will explore the role of artificial intelligence in advancing medicine as Luna “steps into her father’s role as Medical Director of New Amsterdam Hospital,” per the official description.”

New Amsterdam fans watched in the season five finale as the show went full circle and Max’s daughter Luna took the reigns. 

Molly Griggs played the part of Luna in Season 5 on NBC, it’s unclear if she will appear in the new series or the network will book a different actress to lead the charge.

Will Ryan Eggold Return To Amsterdam

It also hasn’t been confirmed if Ryan Eggold will return, but we can’t imagine Max not checking in on his daughter at his old stomping grounds.
