90-Minute Long First Outlander Episode
The show was supposed to film its sixth season on May 3, 2020, but production was postponed because of the coronavirus. Although there’s no precise date yet, it’s been announced that the first episode will be 90 minutes long.
The entire season will be inspired by Diana Gabaldon’s sixth “Outlander” book titled “A Breath of Snow and Ashes.” Season 6 will only have 8 episodes but the seventh season will have 16 episodes. The latter will be based on the seventh “Outlander” book entitled, “An Echo in the Bone.” Gabaldon published eight books and the ninth installment titled “Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone” is set to be released on November 23, 2021.
Season 6 – What To Expect
The upcoming season centers on Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jaime (Sam Heughan) as they continue to grow the community of people who are living on their land in North Carolina amid the brewing American Revolution.
The show’s official synopsis says, “If Season 4 asked ‘What is home?’ and Season 5 asked, ‘What are you willing to do to protect your home?,’ then Season 6 explores what happens when there is disharmony and division among the inhabitants of the home you’ve created: when you become an outsider or an ‘outlander,’ so to speak, marginalized and rejected in your own home.”
Outlander Boss Opens Up About Filming Season 6
Showrunner Matthew B. Roberts said they’re “excited to get into the editing room to work on bringing the fans one step closer to reuniting with the family back on Fraser’s Ridge.”
“Filming in 2021 has presented an unprecedented set of challenges which led us to the decision to truncate the season in order to bring the fans the most vibrant and dynamic season as soon as possible,” he added.
“Dinna fash, we will then film an extended season 7 with 16 episodes next year as life returns to normalcy,” he continued.
Viewers will be introduced to new characters such as Tom (Mark Lewis-Jones), Allan (Alexander Vlahos(, and Malva Christie (Jessica Reynolds). These three will “create tension on the Ridge.” Christina Davis, President of Original Programming for Starz said the upcoming season “reflects the #TakeTheLead initiative through unapologetic storytelling and powerful female characters.”
