Pop Culture Jeopardy! Creators, Structure, Production, and Premiere
Created by Patrick McGuigan, Matt Patterson, and Rob Yowell and executive produced by Andrew Glassman, Pop Culture Jeopardy! takes a classic ‘jeopardy-and-answer’ pop-cultural streaming quiz show and adds the unpredictability of pop culture to the mix.
Contestants compete on teams of three in a tournament structure with the potential for a large grand prize and the bragging rights that come with it. Teams compete across dozens of categories ranging from Alternative Rock to The Avengers, Broadway to MMA, and Gen Z to Zendaya.
Production for “Pop Culture Jeopardy!” is set to begin in August, with a premiere date yet to be announced. This series marks the first “Jeopardy!” spinoff created exclusively for streaming, continuing the show’s legacy that began in 1964.
Jost’s Connection To Jeopardy!
Jost has had previous connections to “Jeopardy!” as a clue on the show twice, with contestants failing to recognize him both times. Reflecting on these moments, Jost humorously noted, “When you’re a clue on ‘Jeopardy!’, you feel like you’ve made it, but then in the same moment you realize, ‘Oh, I have not.’”
Suzanne Prete, president of game shows at Sony Pictures Television, praised Jost’s suitability for the role. “Colin’s sharp wit and intelligence epitomize ‘Pop Culture Jeopardy!’,” she said. “He’s smart and quick, like our contestants, and we know he’ll be able to keep up with them while making this new series his own. We could not be happier that he is joining us for this new journey.”
Lauren Anderson, head of brand and content innovation at Amazon MGM Studios, also expressed enthusiasm about Jost’s appointment, noting his “wry affability and pop culture fluency.”
