Ron Cephas Jones Dies At 66
For the stars of This Is Us, actor Ron Cephas Jones became another family member. And now those who shared the stage with him have honored Ron after his death at 66. For instance,
This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman, recalled the “magical time” of collaborating with the late actor, reported Deadline.
And Fogelman mourned his “massive loss. Ron was the best of the best – on-screen, on stage, and in real life. The coolest. The easiest hang and laugh. And my God: what an actor. I don’t think I ever changed a single take of his in a cut,” added the show creator. “Because everything he did was perfect.”
But Fogelman also recalled his history with the actor. And he shared, “I first got to know Ron at the start of This Is Us, a magical time when it felt like we were all being shot out of a cannon. He was always steady, always grateful – even as the madness swirled around us.” Cephas Jones “loved actors [and] he LOVED his daughter. And we loved him. All of Us.”
Mandy Moore Mourns Loss
But for a different perspective, This Is Us actress Mandy Moore (Rebecca Pearson) recalled the late actor. And she shared, “Getting to know and work with Ron on the wild ride of This Is Us was the greatest gift. He was pure magic as a human and an artist.” And she added, “I will treasure all of the moments forever.”
Sterling K. Brown, who portrayed Jones’ biological son on This Is Us, reflected on the parallels between the show and life. “Life imitated art today,” pointed out Brown. “And one of the most wonderful people the world has ever seen is no longer with us. Brother, you are loved. And you will be missed. Keep them laughing in the next phase of existence, and I’ll see you when I get there.”
Also mourning the loss, This Is Us studio 20th Television described how Ron “touched millions through his brilliant Emmy-winning work on This Is Us, and his beautiful portrayal of William Hill. He loved everyone he worked with in a deeply profound way,” noted the studio. “And he made certain that they knew it.”
Jones combined “unbelievable talent” with “kindness,” added the studio. “He will be missed by all fortunate enough to call him a colleague and friend, and we send our sincere condolences to his family and friends.” The actor died at the age of 66 following “a long-standing pulmonary issue.”
