‘S.W.A.T.’ Is Unstoppable – Show’s Producer Hints At A Season 9 For The Series

As the second-longest-running series on the CBS network, S.W.A.T. fans are awaiting the announcement of the show’s season finale date.

Still, the drama’s producer recently had an interview where he hinted that a Season 9 could take place.

Is Season 8 ‘S.W.A.T’’s Last Season?

It’s interesting to note that CBS has yet to market the fact that this is S.W.A.T.’s final season. During an interview, Shawn Ryan, the show’s producer noted, “It’s been called the final season the last three or four seasons, hasn’t it?”

He’s not wrong. The show was supposed to be canceled in Season 7, only for CBS to reverse its decision.

The same thing happened in the spring of 2024. As such, it’s not hard to think that S.W.A.T. could live to see another day, and a Season 9.

‘S.W.A.T.’’s TV Life Also Depends On Corporate Dynamics

Ryan also pointed out that “corporate change is happening in that world.” To put this quote in perspective, the buzz is that David Ellison’s company, Skydance, will be acquiring CBS’ parent company Paramount Global, which could change things for S.W.A.T. and other shows on the network.

Ryan went on to reveal that things are up in the air and that he’s unsure of what factors will come into play for the show’s renewal, as it seems to be different from past years.

It’s important to note that a good chunk of renewal decisions are not expected to be announced until the Skydance deal is finalized in the mid-spring of 2025.

With that said, Ryan goes on to note that S.W.A.T.’s cast and crew are “… going to continue to make the best show we can.” He later added, “We are really proud of the legacy of that show.”

Shemar Moore, who plays the lead character Hondo in the drama, has been very vocal about S.W.A.T.’s renewal, stating that while nothing lasts forever, he plans to fight.

As of this writing, there have yet to be renewal negotiations between CBS and Sony Pictures Television.
