The revised version of the high school comedy is coming to the network’s forthcoming streaming service, scheduled to launch in April. Totah will play a cheerleader and one of the most popular girls at Bayside High School who is also admired and feared by her fellow classmates.

Saved By the Bell was a successful half-hour comedy series that ran from 1989 to 1992 on NBC. Mark-Paul Gosselaar starred as Zack Morris. It also included the likes of A.C. Slater (Lopez), Jessie Spano (Berkeley), Kelly Kapowski (Tiffani Thiessen), Lisa Turtle (Lark Voorhies), and “Screech” Powers (Dustin Diamond). A spinoff series called Saved By the Bell: The College Years ran from 1993 to 1994 and included some of the original cast.

Tracy Wigfield will serve as the executive producer of the reboot. She previously worked on the Emmy-winning series, 30 Rock. Berkeley and Lopez will also produce the series. Totah will return to NBCU following her starring role in the Mindy Kaling-produced comedy called Champions, which only aired for one season on NBC. Totah came out as a transgender woman in 2018.

She also aired on the ABC comedy, Back in the Game, which also aired for one season. Totah’s other acting credits include the Disney Channel’s Live and Maddie and Spider-Man: Homecoming. She also appeared on Netflix’s No Good Nick.

NBC’s new streaming platform, Peacock, is expected to launch in April with a series of originals joining the lineup by summer 2020. Saved By the Bell isn’t the only reboot that’s coming to the streaming platform.

It will also be followed by a Battlestar Galactica reboot from Sam Esmail, the creator of Mr. Robot. More details about Peacock and its shows will be revealed on Jan. 16 during an NBCUniversal investor presentation. What are your thoughts on the Saved By the Bell reboot?
