S.W.A.T Season 5 Kicks Off In A Big Way On CBS

S.W.A.T S.W.A.T ended Season 4 on a pretty high note with a lot of changes for most of the characters, leaving the story open to exploring different directions in its upcoming season. It’s probably a big exhale for fans of the show to get tidbits of what to expect from the show’s Season 5. Action, check, suspense, double check, popcorn? I’ll leave that up to you.

The show’s executive producer and creator Shawn Ryan recently revealed what Shemar Moore’s Hondo is going to be up to following the unexpected demotion in the finale. According to Shawn Ryan, they can’t wait to share with fans what they’ve been up to, and well, I’m thinking the feeling is mutual for fans as well.

S.W.A.T’s Season 5 Premiere Episode – Opens in Mexico

Shawn Ryan, who also serves as one of the series’ major writers, previewed what to expect from S.W.A.T’s forthcoming episodes while talking to TVLine. He revealed that the big two-part episode will partially take place south of the border.

The episodes will largely be filmed on location in Mexico, which is a sign that the movie industry is trying to get back to its pre-pandemic standards, with some other cast members appearing in Los Angeles-based subplots back home.

The series remains focused on Hondo, but with a classic twist. “As Hondo tries to decide what to do next with his career, he finds himself regrouping at a friend’s vacation home in rural Mexico, in a two-part season premiere inspired by some of the classic Clint Eastwood “Man With No Name” Westerns,” Ryan told the outlet.

Ryan confirming that Hondo will still retain his place as the series lead character is especially relevant to the show’s fans, who were worried that Hondo might get sidelined after his demotion. While on the vacation, “[Hondo is] reluctantly pulled into the troubles of a local widow and her daughter. Against a spectacular mountain backdrop unlike anything you see on scripted television, these first two hours of Season 5 will allow us to explore Hondo’s character and choices in a unique and exciting way for us. We can’t wait to show these episodes to our fans.”

S.W.A.T Season 5 Details

A fan questioned Shawn Ryan about the amount of time jump between Season 4 and Season 5, and the executive producer responded, writing that it would be a few months. A lot would have developed for everyone during that gap, and it’ll be fun to see how things have progressed between Street and Chris.

Filming for Season 5 reportedly starts later this week, and if it does, it won’t be long before CBS will announce a premiere date for the fall. However, the show will be leaving its usual time slot and will be moving to Fridays at 8 p.m. EST. It will start airing on Sundays at 10 p.m. EST later in the season when former Wednesday partner SEAL Team moves to Paramount+ to finish its Season 5 run.
