The Crown Season 5: Dominic West Transforms Into Prince Charles

Prince Charles Season five of The Crown is almost upon us, and so far we’ve gotten to see a glimpse of the new characters that will be stepping in for the departing ones to continue the royal story. As fans of the show must know quite well, the show casts new characters every two seasons. Recently, the series unveiled its new Queen Elizabeth, Imelda Staunton, for which it received numerous praises from fans who loved the actress’ transformation into the monarch.

But the latest casting for Prince Charles has drawn criticisms from the show’s fans who think that he’s nothing like Charles, in other words, Prince Charles is nearly not as hot.

On Tuesday, August 17, Netflix released the first official pictures of Elizabeth Debicki and Dominic West as their The Crown Season 5 characters: Princess Diana and Prince Charles, respectively.

Ahead of the new series release, the streaming platform shared two separate pictures of the pair, mildly hinting that this could be the season when Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s marriage come tumbling down, even as the press unravels the mysteries, bringing a good – or “bad” – story to the faithful public.

The Crown’s official Twitter account wrote, “Our new Prince Charles (Dominic West) and Princess Diana (Elizabeth Debicki),” alongside the pictures.

In the first image, Princess Diana has transformed from her shy smiling younger self to an older miserable one. Prince Charles looks equally as unhappy as he gazes into a countryside garden.

Season four of the hit TV series led us through Diana’s rough courtship with Prince Charles and subsequent unhappiness in marriage, which came after Olivia Colman’s Queen Elizabeth II encouraged the pair to try to make it work.

It’s predicted that the upcoming season will likely take us into the ’90s to one of the most publicized marital breakdowns of the decade.

Fans of the show were quick to point out that Dominic West, who will be playing Prince Charles in the upcoming season, looks nothing like the real-life prince he is set to portray.

One fan commented on the casting, writing, “Look, I’m obsessed with THE CROWN. But casting Dominic West as Prince Charles is the dictionary definition of a stretch.” Another wrote, “They’re very polite with their Prince Charles casting.”

The Crown Season Five Details

Per reports, season five of The Crown is well underway, as the new images of Debicki and West are coming just two weeks after Debicki was spotted filming on the grounds of Ardverikie Lodge, the equivalent of the Royals’ beloved Scottish summer holiday home, Balmoral Castle.

Unfortunately, new episodes of the popular series won’t be arriving until 2022.
