Immediately after the episode aired, former Prime Minister John Major called the portrayal “malicious nonsense”. Dame Judi Dench also advised Netflix to put a disclaimer on the content since they’re now exaggerating people’s private lives.

Netflix’s “The Crown” Is Inspired By The Royal Family But It’s “Fictional”

A movie is meant to be dramatic in order to keep its viewers deeply interested, and if we’re being honest, real life rarely carries all that excitement in rapid succession.

show was formerly billed as a historic retelling, but each Season presents newer blurred lines between facts and fiction.

In a first, Netflix has found it necessary to include a disclaimer in the “The Crown’s” official trailer released on the streamer’s YouTube channel.

The hit drama was accompanied by the statement: “Inspired by real events, this fictional dramatisation tells the story of Queen Elizabeth II and the political and personal events that shaped her reign.”

Two new seasons are currently in production and scheduled for a mid-2023 release. The upcoming seasons will reportedly feature sensitive topics, including King Charles and Diana’s marriage breakdown, Diana’s final days and Diana’s death, even though there are rumors Netflix won’t go into painful detail.

Judi Dench Officially Calls Netflix To Include A Disclaimer To Their “The Crown” Series

No one can argue that “The Crown” hasn’t been profitable to Netflix. In fact, it is one of the most successful original series on Netflix.

Following the call from Judi Dench, 87, to add a disclaimer to the content, a Netflix spokesperson said: “The Crown has always been presented as a drama based on historical events.

“Series five is a fictional dramatisation, imagining what could have happened behind closed doors during a significant decade for the Royal Family – one that has already been scrutinised and well documented by journalists, biographers and historians.”
