Season 1 of The Mandalorian ended on Friday, Dec. 27 with several reveals. First, showrunner Jon Favreau revealed that Season 2 of the series will be released in Fall 2020. Second, the Mandalorian’s name has also been revealed. There are also other surprises sprinkled throughout the episode. If you haven’t watched Season 1 or the season finale of The Mandalorian on Disney Plus, then you’ll want to avoid these spoilers.
Last week’s episode 7 of The Mandalorian was the perfect setup to a heart-racing season finale. Disney didn’t want to upset its subscribers with the next episode, which is also its longest episode to date. As reported via Space, Gideon announced the name of the Mandalorian as Din Djarin. This was already planned as this episode’s big reveal. But Pedro Pascal already revealed it previously in an interview back in November. Fans also learned that Dune has a middle name and she comes from Alderaan, which explains why she’s against the Empire.
The latest reveal is that Season 2 of the popular Disney+ Star Wars series will be released sometime in Fall 2020, according to Favreau. He tweeted the release date along with a statuette of Gamorrean, a “green-skinned pig-like species” that was previously seen in the 1983 film Return of the Jedi, according to NBC News. Season 2 is currently in production. The Mandalorian has already taken social media by storm since its launch on the streaming service.
This is because of the beloved new character called Baby Yoda. The character is a 50-year-old “Kid” also known as The Child, according to a C-Net report. It’s the same species as Master Yoda, even though that species has never been named. However, the mixed reviews for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, also known as the ninth and final film in the Skywalker franchise, has fans worried about the future of the franchise. However, due to the success of The Mandalorian on Disney+, Star Wars still has a dedicated fanbase along with a new home on the streaming platform.
The Mandalorian season finale also reveals a big problem with Disney Plus. Because of its eight short episodes, it’s already over. Since the release of Season 2 is so long, the subscribers may want to take a year off from Disney Plus as well. That means it could experience a drop between now and then, as reported via Forbes. If you’re a Marvel or Star Wars fan, then you may have nothing to quench your thirst until then. In addition, it’ll be another three years before another Star Wars film will be released in theaters. The only exception to this rule is Clone Wars, which has been revived for Disney Plus and will debut in February 2020.
Disney Plus hasn’t released any other details about its original live-action Marvel and Star Wars shows, which puts fans in a dead end. Disney should’ve better mapped out its first year of content if it wants to capitalize on the success of The Mandalorian. But the company can’t do that if it plans a follow-up a year later. It’s giving people a reason to unsubscribe from the service after watching the entire series, and that does not bode well for the streaming service.
