Nic bid farewell to Chastain Park Memorial Hospital as the injuries she attained in a car accident defeated her. “It’s such a bittersweet moment for me. I loved doing “The Resident” so much for four years I was on it,” she told Deadline.
After giving birth to her daughter, Iris, the new mom, chose to embrace her growing family even more. Despite getting sad about leaving Fox’s series, she said she made the right decision, especially now that Iris is already part of her and her husband’s lives.
VanCamp also revealed that her decision to leave the show was met with understanding and compassion, which she was really grateful for.
Knowing that the actress is very private regarding her family life and other personal stuff, she was able to keep her baby bump while working, because her on-screen character was pregnant as well. She disclosed about wearing a prosthetic belly over her belly because the “timing was not really that perfect.”
“It allowed us to keep the pregnancy quiet and to have something that’s just ours for a little while. That was beautiful in and of itself – to finally have a little privacy,” she added.
The Resident – Emily VanCamp Expresses Her Love For Her Character As Nic Nevin
“The Resident” star revealed how thankful she is for playing the role of Nic Nevin. According to her, Nic has taught her so much in life that she left a major stamp on Emily’s heart. She admitted that she’s looking forward to being back on the show, even for some flashback scenes in the future.
She also mentioned her love about the CoNic (Conrad and Nic) tandem and how relatable it was to most of the couple that their characters are constantly there for each other as partners in life.
When her on-screen husband, Matt Czuchry, was asked about his thoughts regarding Emily leaving the show, he told Deadline: “She wanted to focus on family, and I was the first person she told about that. I just wanted her to be happy. It’s been incredibly rewarding to have a partnership with her.”
‘The Resident’ Spoilers – Airs Final Episode Of Emily VanCamp’s Nicolette ‘Nic’ Nevin
Fans were shocked by the end of September 28’s episode when the police who arrived at the doorstep of Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry) informed him about Nic’s car accident.
Episode 3: “The Long and Winding Road” started with Conrad rushing to get to the hospital to meet his wife, Nic, who was in critical condition after the single-car collision.
Their friends and colleagues ran too many tests and suggested putting Nic in a medically induced coma. They declared Nic was brain dead and will never gain consciousness again.
Conrad didn’t want to let his wife suffer any longer and pulled the life support, contradicting Kyle Nevin’s (Corbin Bernsen) decision, but Conrad already decided and donated Nic’s organs to those who need them.
Conrad witnessed Nic’s last moments without being able to express his love and last goodbye to his wife.
