The Rookie Signs ‘Bones’ Alum Emily Deschanel As Newest Cast Member Of ABC Show

The Rookie spoilers and updates reveal “Bones” Alum Emily Deschanel will join the team for season 3 on its teaser for May 2 playing as John Nolan’s (Nathan Fillion) opposite.

Emily is set to enter the scene as John’s ex-wife Sarah, after April 18 episode shocker. John and Sarah’s son, Henry (Zayne Emory) collapsed while spending time with his father as he walked to the dinner table. The promo for the next episode titled “Brave Heart” shows John rushing his son to the hospital. The two struggle on coping with their son’s health and will have to make a hard decision if they will allow Henry to undergo surgery.

The promo includes Sergeant Wade Grey (Richard T. Jones) assuring John by saying: “Family trumps everything. You’re exactly where you’re supposed to be.”

Emily Deschanel News – From the Past

Sarah’s character was already established, although not seen yet in the show. In “The Rookie’s” October episode in 2018, it was revealed that Sarah conceived Henry when she and John were still in college. To take responsibility, John had no choice but to drop out of college to start a construction business. However, the years have changed them so much ending in divorce when Henry graduated from college.

Emily had gone away from the acting spotlight about a year and a half since her last involvement in TNT’s crime-based television Animal Kingdom in 2019 as a recovering addict and ex-con named Angela. But she was famously known as the main protagonist in the American Fox television “Bones” as a forensic anthropologist named Temperance “Bones” Brennan. She first appeared on the pilot episode in 2005 and had stayed for 12 seasons, summing up to over 250 episodes until 2017. The star was a nominee for various awards, including the People’s Choice Awards, USA and Satellite Awards.

While Fillion portrayed a mystery novelist who became an amateur in ABC’s “Castle” as detective Richard Castle from 2009 to 2016 for eight seasons. His role landed him as the Favorite TV Crime Drama Actor at the People’s Choice Awards in 2016, alongside co-star Stana Katic as the best actress. He won the Favorite Actor Award at the TV Guide Award in 2014, and the duo had consecutively won as Favorite TV Couple from 2011 to 2013.

Both stars have had a huge fan following during their run on their own shows, and now they are about to portray a couple in “The Rookie” facing personal and family issues.
