For instance, a “This Is Us” spin-off could show what might have happened if that beloved Pearson patriarch, Jack (Milo Ventimiglia), had survived the devastating fire! Will NBC fulfill that hope? Well, maybe! Find out what the creator of “This Is Us” just teased about a possible movie below.
‘This Is Us’ Creator Teases NBC Movie!
Dan Fogelman, creator of “This Is Us,” feels just like us about bidding farewell to the Pearson family, he told EW. As a result, Dan feels open to the possibility of finding ways to continue the show. And where Fogelman leads, NBC feels ready to follow! For instance, the “This Is Us” creator recognizes the potential for a TV movie featuring the Big Three (Randall, Kate, and Kevin), Rebecca, and the rest of the cast. But he also discussed the challenges in an NBC Zoom panel.
In May, “This Is Us” will complete its six season of flashbacks and flash-forwards. And while fans will continue enjoying those inevitable reruns, Dan sees a future for the Pearson family saga. Or as he summed up his feelings, “I say no to nothing.” And that includes a possible NBC TV movie!
But Fogelman also discussed the key challenge in such a film. As a result of the actors’ popularity, Milo Ventimiglia (Jack), Mandy Moore (Rebecca), Sterling K. Brown (Randall), Susan Kelechi Watson (Beth), Justin Hartley (Kevin), and Chrissy Metz (Kate) may not find time for a “This Is Us” movie. (Okay, bring out our special box of “This Is Us” tissues for those tears!)
Will ‘This Is Us’ Tell The Complete Saga By Season 6 Finale?!
But before fans resign themselves to watching and re-watching reruns, Dan offered up an idea. And he even got an agreement from some key players! “Sure. If we could figure out a movie down the road, I’d love to get back together with these guys and do it,” he confessed. But he added a caveat.
“By the end of this season, I think we’ll have told the complete story,” cautioned Fogelman. “So, I’m not sure.” But then the clever creator came up with a possible plot! “If you’re doing the movie of, like, what would happen if Jack survived the fire or something….” he mused.
And boom! Three major players chimed in about the possibility of a “This Is Us” movie. First, Justin Hartley bought into the plan. “There’s your movie,” agreed Hartley. And Dan shared that he spied agreement from a second important player in the movie scheme.
“I see on my computer screen, the president of NBC is texting me ‘yes’ to the movie,” revealed Fogelman. But could it ring true as “This Is Us” movie without the wit and wisdom of Randall (Sterling K. Brown)? That question doesn’t need to get answered, because Brown chimed in as well! “Never say never,” agreed Sterling.
As a result, we won’t feel quite so sad when we view the series finale May 24 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. But we want to know what you think! Would you watch a movie spin-off of “This Is Us”? And after you’ve shared your views, check back on our site for more television news!
