TLC’s “90 Day Fiancé-The Other Way” star Brittany Banks recently talked to Fox News about her culture shock when visiting her boyfriend Yazan Abu Hurira in Jordan.

Viewers will recall that her trip to Jordan to meet Yazan’s family was full of drama and confrontations the minute she stepped foot out of the airport to get herself and her luggage into Yazan’s car so he could take her to her hotel! Brittany was only being herself, and had no idea that things she would do naturally in the United States were so not only frowned upon but downright sinful!

Yazan absolutely went ballistic when he saw her hug the TLC production crew, which had males among them and saw she had a bottle of vodka in her bag! Brittany had her doubts that her relationship with Yazan would work out because she had never seen him like that before, and he had not told her ahead of time that she should not drink alcohol or hug other men – so she was very confused and upset!

She told Fox News that she respected his choices and his culture, but also that she is not Muslim, a fact of which she kept reminding Yazan. She was particularly disturbed at his behavior because he reminded her of her ex, and if Yazan was going to turn into a clone of her ex, she wanted nothing further to do with him!

Things didn’t go well when she met his parents either, and in the most recent episode, they went to talk to his maternal uncle to intervene with Yazan’s father, because Yazan said his uncle and his father are close and he thought the uncle may be able to sway the father’s opinions towards Brittany.

Brittany Found Things To Be Different Than She Thought They Would Be In Jordan

Brittany told Fox News that she found things to be different in Jordan than she thought they would be – she said one can just travel to another country solely for a new experience, and she said she had done some research prior to leaving on Google. But then when she got there, she found that things were much different than what she had read on the Internet, particularly with Yazan’s parents.

When one reads about a foreign country on the Internet, much of what one sees are the selling points of a travel agent or the promotions of a foreign tourism department. Brittany said as far as meeting Yazan’s parents, it was also different than learning about them from Yazan, as he of course would have his particular viewpoint which turned out to be much different than Brittany’s once she met them. She compares it to a hands-on experience versus being told about them on the phone. She was also grateful that the TLC cameras were there to capture everything on film, both good and bad.

She has been able to see that there were some times she was being very selfish and wasn’t really thinking of others. She said she’s learning a lot about that and appreciates the playback so she could see things about herself and her behavior from an outside perspective, so to speak. She said sometimes it’s funny because she can’t believe she said or that certain things happened and seeing it on film is a teaching experience!
