John Goodman – Shows Off 200-Lb Weight Loss

The 2023 Monte Carlo TV Festival gave actor John Goodman the opportunity to flaunt his 200-pound weight loss. And the 70-year-old star of shows such as Roseanne and The Righteous Gemstones wowed in a fitted blue suit jacket, white dress shirt, and tan slacks.

Goodman took on the role of jury president at the festival. And he looked dapper in his dark sunglasses, yellow tie, and brown loafers, according to Page Six.

Goodman shared that he made his weight loss resolutions when the scale revealed he weighed 400 pounds. And the actor explained that his goals differed from previous attempts at dieting. “In the old days, I would take three months out, lose 60 or 70 pounds, and then reward myself with a six-pack or whatever,” recalled John. But then he would “just go back to my old habits.”

However, the Roseanne alum decided to aim for a slow, steady weight loss instead. “This time, I wanted to do it slowly. Move, exercise. I’m getting to the age where I can’t afford to sit still anymore,” added Goodman. And he also hired a personal trainer.

John Goodman – Uses Specific Diet And Fitness Plan

However, Goodman also joked that “it takes a lot of creative energy to sit on your a*s and figure out what you’re going to eat next.” But turning serious, the actor added, “I wanted to live life better.” And so the Emmy Award winner began using the Mediterranean-style diet for his food plan. As a result, John’s meals include fish, olive oil, vegetables, nuts and fruit.

But Goodman also set specific fitness goals. And he started walking at least 10,000 to 12,000 steps a day. “This didn’t happen overnight. It’s been an ongoing process,” pointed out John’s fitness trainer Mackie Shilstone. And in addition to following the Mediterranean diet, the actor focused on learning “portion control.”

Before setting his weight loss goals, Goodman admitted that he “was just shoving everything into my mouth.” But that habit along with avoiding exercise took its toll. And John told People, “I know it sounds sappy.” But he realized that neglecting to follow a healthy diet and exercise program “was a waste.”

John Goodman – Remembers Feeling ‘Extremely Heavy’

Goodman’s fitness trainer Mackie Shilstone, who has trained athletes such as Serena Williams, helped the actor get to the point of working out six days a week. John also eliminated both sugar and alcohol from his diet. “I’m breaking a sweat,” admitted the actor. “But I’m not going nuts.”

However, Shilstone praised his client for sticking to the plan. And the fitness trainer pointed out that John “remembers what it feels like to be extremely heavy.” As a result, “it’s something he doesn’t want again. John is very agile. When I see him running I get out of the way! He can be a different type of actor now. He can take on athletic parts.”
