It’s been a number of years since ‘Game of Thrones’ ended and gave way to the prequel ‘House of the Dragon.’
Every now and then, news of a Kit Harrington-led spinoff would surface, but would eventually fizzle out. Happily, HBO has just hinted that they’re developing another show set in the world of ‘Game of Thrones,’ and we can’t help but wonder whether it’s going to be a prequel or a sequel.
HBO Announces A “Very Big Budget” Show Set Within the ‘Game of Thrones’ Universe
Based on George R.R. Martin’s ‘A Song of Ice and Fire,’ ‘Game of Thrones‘ thrilled audiences for a long time with its high fantasy and drama.
It’s so far made its way into pop culture that Ed Sheeran appeared on ‘Red Notice’ to announce he starred in ‘Game of Thrones, bitches.’ Haha.
Singer-songwriter Mabel boldly declared in her song ‘About Last Night’ “You can call me Khaleesi” and Blake Lively believes she has a few dragons of her own like, yeah you guessed it, Khaleesi.
It’s been over six years since ‘Game of Thrones’ ended and yet the buzz surrounding it is yet to go away. Diring its run, the show focused on the struggle for power within and between the seven kingdoms, from the Starks, the Lannisters to the Targaryens living in exile.
The prequel series ‘House of the Dragon’ chose to give us a deeper dive into the Targaryen family, and into a time when dragons ruled the skies.
Apart from ‘House of the Dragon,’ HBO has also been fiddling with a series of other spinoff ideas – though those that will make it to production are still largely unclear.
“We have other spinoffs that we’re working on right now, one of which — which I won’t get into — is very promising, and it is still the Targaryen line,” she said. “There’s a number of other spinoffs, we can’t really guarantee what’s going to go forward, but we are very big budget on the other ones.”
This “very big budget” show is rumored to be the Aegon’s Conquest of Westeros. If it’s true, then the new series will take place 300 years before the events of ‘Game of Thrones’ and 150 years before ‘House of the Dragon.’
It serves as the foundational story of George R.R. Martin’s mythology, and would definitely be worth seen exploring onscreen.
