Merritt Yohnka Once Starred On ‘Days Of Our Lives’
The late stunt coordinator and actor enjoyed a long and varied career in Hollywood after studying at Western Illinois University. Born in Illinois in 1958, Merritt began his career in the entertainment field at Knott’s Berry Farm. After starring in the park’s “Wild West Stunt Show,” Yohnka auditioned for a soap opera. That audition resulted in a recurring role on “Days Of Our Lives,” portraying Joey.
Beyond his soap opera, stunt coordinator, and stunt double work, Yohnka played various roles in different TV shows. But a car commercial opened the door not to a new career in advertising. Instead, that advertisement introduced him to the woman who would become his wife, Cindy. The couple married in 1996.
Residing in Sherwood Forest, Los Angeles County, the family grew to include three children, Garrett, Steven, and Emily. And Yohnka found time to treat their kids to the great outdoors, from fishing to boating. But then came the diagnosis of cancer.
The stuntman and beloved family man suffered from the disease for years prior to his death on September 16, 2020. Yohnka’s friends and family surrounded him as he passed. In the wake of his death, the crew and cast of “Lucifer” honored him. He will be missed.
