While most fans didn’t seem to mind since they’re already obsessed with the Supernatural series, other fans feared that airing a new episode during the holiday could be a terrible idea. So, will The CW follow through and air a Thanksgiving episode on Season 15? The CW seems to have learned from its previous mistake when it decided to air a Thanksgiving episode.
The network noticed when an episode took a ratings hit during a holiday. During Season 14, not as many viewers were glued to their TV sets on Thanksgiving night. It looks like the network wants to stick with that decision for Season 15. Even though the ratings no longer matter for the series during its final season, the network wants to make sure that its dedicated fans will catch every episode. Plus, it needs the advertising revenue, according to SPN Hunters. Airing a show on Thanksgiving night wouldn’t make the network any money, especially during a night when people have other plans.
Even some of the most hardcore Supernatural fans won’t be watching on Thanksgiving night. There are few fans who would watch the show live while others would make plans to watch the episode later. The CW made that same mistake during Season 13 and the ratings plummeted on Thanksgiving night. The idea of having a show on Thanksgiving would be a huge mistake.
People are often spending time with their family, traveling, or watching the football game. Or, they’re eating a second helping of pumpkin pie, checking out the Black Friday deals, or watching a repeat of the Macy’s Day Parade. People aren’t usually around to watch their favorite show like they are on a regular day. So, it’s likely that there won’t be a Thanksgiving episode of Supernatural.
There won’t even be a repeat of a previous episode. Instead, the network wants to air an iHeartRadio special. The network also plans to air holiday specials on Friday night, since most people will still be at the malls shopping the Black Friday deals.
