The new soap opera will be called The Gates and center around a wealthy black family that resides in a high-end gated community.
Michele Val Jean, a Daytime Emmy winner scribe as well as Bold and the Beautiful (B&B) and General Hospital (GH) alum, will be the showrunner and writer.
She will also act as executive producer along with Sheila Ducksworth, Kimberly Doebereine, Leon Russell, and Derrick Johnson. It’s interesting to note that Michele Val Jean just left the B&B writing team, quite recently.
More On Brand New Daytime Drama – “The Gates”
Ducksworth, CBS Studio NAACP venture president released a statement about The Gates, noting that it will be “everything we love about daytime drama” from a “fresh” and “new” perspective.
She adds that the soap will “salute” a traditionally underserved audience, “with the potential to be a groundbreaking moment for broadcast television”. Ducksworth goes on to say that, “With multi-dimensional characters, juicy storylines, and Black culture front and center,” the new show will have “impactful representation, one of the key touchstones of the venture.”
She adds that she’s “excited to develop this project with CBS and P&G, two of the longest and most passionate champions of broadcast and daytime television, and the NAACP, whose enduring commitment to Black voices and artists is both powerful and inspiring.”
