The Young and the Restless Poll: Eric Braeden Celebrates 40 Years – What Will Victor Newman Do Next?

Christian Miller (Eric Braeden) is an iconic character on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Hardcore fans know that’s the real name of the alter ego who Braeden dubbed the victorious new man. And so Victor Newman (Braeden), as created by the founder of Y&R Bill Bell, debuted in February 1980.

The Newman family is honoring the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of Newman Enterprises, which means soapy time is being stretched just a bit. Victor was recruited by Katherine Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper) to help run Chancellor Industries. He arrived in Genoa City, Wisconsin, with his wife, Julia Newman (Meg Bennett, who is reprising her role after last being seen in 2018, during this steamer’s forty-fifth-anniversary celebration.)

Julia lived with Victor at the Ranch before he came to know his eternal soul mate, Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott). She is the mother of two of his children, Vickie Newman (Amelia Heinle) and Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow). Victor’s alternative soul mate is Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson), who is the mother of Abby Newman (Melissa Ordway). And Hope Wilson (Signy Coleman), another of Victor’s deep loves, is the mother of the infamous Adam Newman (Mark Grossman). Each lady and others have helped to indelibly shape Victor.

It took Victor many years and much pain to realize that family matters more than the business he created. Various divorces and remarriages to Nikki, along with intense strife with his children, including an epic lawsuit that saw more than a billion dollars given to three of them (Vickie, Nick, and Abby) by court order, and numerous brushes with death, involving himself and numerous loved ones, has served to mellow the ‘Moustache’.

One of the more remarkable turnarounds happened with Adam, who came to detest ‘Pops’ intensely during the Michael Muhney (Adam) era. Justin Hartley (Adam) backed off a bit and actually made peace with Victor, just prior to the cabin explodes. That resulted in the eventual recast of Grossman in this role.

Of course, Nick and his dad have been at odds on many occasions, including the relatively recent conflict where Morrow’s character pretended to be J.T. Hellstrom (Thad Luckinbill) during a successful attempt to psychologically torture Victor.

Vickie has been hounded by her father about Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson), with his intent being proven wise again this year. Buzz indicates that Vickie will be impacted by a dramatic event that takes place at the Newman Enterprises gala, however.

Thankfully, all has been well with Abby lately.

Jack Abbott (originally played by the late Terry Lester and by Peter Bergman since 1989) has long been Victor’s nemesis. While they’ve agreed to a few, brief truce periods, ongoing battles have often held sway.

A different atmosphere came to exist between Victor and Jack last year, which partially resulted in a number of genuine conversations. Jack even solicited Victor’s advice about re-centering his life and followed through by retreating at a spa resort.

Hardly, Mr. Warm of Fuzzy, Victor has softened within the last year. The perceived loss of Adam in 2016, his return and double-dosing of his father’s medicine, followed by the death hoax, combined to change the dynamic. Victor isn’t a changed man, as much as he’s applying lessons learned.

Young And The Restless Spoilers – Love Pursuits, Rather Than Power Grabs

It’s always possible that Victor retakes the throne that he allowed Victoria to have, or stays on during an unexpected period where she might not be able to work (wink)
. But it would seem that Y&R would walk on patted plot ground if Victor decides to pursue business schemes again, or wages war on Jack.

‘Niktor’s’ revival and sustained existence have been one of the most heart-warming developments in Victor’s life. Fans of the couple and both iconic actors surely agree as the respect they share is powerful. But Braeden’s character is prone to mood changes. He’s still not predictable, which makes him forever intriguing.
