Bennett, originally known as Helen Bennett, spent her formative years in the vibrant city of Pasadena, California.
Fueling her love for the performing arts, she decided to pursue a degree in drama at Northwestern University; her journey into the world of entertainment commenced with her foray into modeling.
It was her breakthrough role as the “Cadillac Eldorado Convertible Girl” in 1971 that propelled her to New York City, where she began her Broadway career in Godspell and Grease.

With her remarkable performances on stage, she caught the attention of the producers of the daytime soap opera Search for Tomorrow, and she quickly was offered a role.
They cast her as Liza Walton Kaslo, a role she flawlessly portrayed for three years, and in 1980, she played Julia Newman on Y & R, captivating audiences for six years.
It was during this time Bennett’s exceptional talent for providing insightful script notes and rewrite suggestions was noticed by the show’s creative team, leading to an incredible opportunity as a writer.
As Bennett pursued her passion for writing, she seamlessly shifted gears to make it her main career focus, all the while continuing to dazzle audiences with her captivating performances.

Having made her mark as a talented writer for The Young and the Restless, she then ventured into other soap operas.
The Bold and the Beautiful, Generations, Sunset Beach, Santa Barbara, and General Hospital all became her creative playgrounds while continuing to act as well.
In Santa Barbara, she portrayed the character of Megan Richardson, leaving a lasting impression on the audience, and played Allegra Montenegro on General Hospital.
In 1995, her exceptional writing contributions to General Hospital led her to receive the prestigious Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series Writing Team.
She also collaborated with her husband, Robert Guza Jr., in creating the captivating Sunset Beach; she’s survived by her husband, two stepdaughters and four beloved grandchildren.
