The actress recently sat down with Soap Opera Digest (SOD) to talk about this next chapter in Mariah’s story.
Camryn Grimes Is Grateful
The Young and the Restless spoilers note that Mariah has not been in a good place mentally for months now. Thanks to the prompting from an Ian Ward (Ray Wise) hallucination, the character decided to do something drastic – kidnapping Dominic Newman-Abbott-Winters-Chancellor (Ethan Ray Park)!
Fans will recall that Mariah acted as a surrogate to Abby Newman-Abbott-Winters (Melissa Ordway), who was married to Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd) at the time.
Now, Abby is with Dom’s biological father, Devon Hamilton Winters (Bryton James), and both parents are out of their minds with worry.
Grimes told SOD, “I’m happy to see this story going somewhere and have it not be left as ambiguous.”

She went on to say, “I am always happy for the opportunity to play something that is a challenge, and I think this was definitely that, for me.”
Grimes acknowledges that fans aren’t going to respond well to Mariah kidnapping Dom, which makes sense (considering the situation), but it also means Y&R viewers are, “…invested in all of these characters and their happiness or their stories or their future.”
Grimes’s Hope
One thing Grimes relays is that she hopes she’ll be able to accurately portray Mariah in this situation.
The actress tells the online magazine that, “… even if you are in complete disagreement with what Mariah is doing and her actions, there’s some sort of empathy for where she’s at. Which is not a good place, you know?”

She also adds, “As much as everybody would like to, you can’t have all of your characters be happy and settled.
That’s just not interesting. To continue this genre, you have to be constantly putting your characters through turmoil and strife and drama.”
Grimes notes, “I tip my hat to the writers who always have to figure out new ways to do that. And whether you agree or disagree with it, it continues the story, and it moves characters like chess pieces.”
The actress goes on to say, “Events unfold, and there are consequences and repercussions. That is always changing and evolving the canvas of these characters and their interactions with each other. And I think that’s important for a show to continue and a genre to be thriving.”
