The Young and the Restless spoilers suggest that Lily Winters’s life has been flipped upside down since she found out her biological father, Malcolm Winters (Shemar Moore), is dealing with aplastic anemia and requires a bone marrow transplant.

The character’s portrayer, Christel Khalil, recently sat down with Soap Opera Digest (SOD) to talk about the storyline and teased a possible romantic reunion between Lily and Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn).

Lily Winters Is Devastated

The Young and the Restless spoilers remind fans that the news of Malcolm’s condition has simply devastated Lily.

After all, she’s still grieving the loss of the man who raised her, Neil Winters (Kristoff St. John, who passed away in 2019. Khalil tells SOD, “I think it’s this thing of, ‘I couldn’t save my dad, now I might not be able to save my uncle. What am I going to do?’”

The actress adds, “She’s realizing that this is the last parental figure that she has around, and what if he dies? And that’s really scary.”

Add in the fact that it’s been challenging for Malcolm to find a donor within his family. Lily can’t donate bone marrow to save Malcolm because of her past cancer battle and chemotherapy treatments.

In addition, Malcolm’s other biological child, Holden Novak (Nathan Owens), wasn’t a match, and neither were either of her and Cane’s twins, Charlie Ashby (Noah Alexander Gerry) and Mattie Ashby (Lexi Stevenson).

The situation seems dire, but in the land of soaps, anything is possible, and sometimes the most unexpected person can end up saving the day. Enter: Cane Ashby!

Cane Ashby’s Donor Match Changes Everything

On Thursday, April 23, Cane found out about Malcolm’s plight and immediately went to get tested to see if he could be a match.

While he was quite upset at Lily for duping him about her and the twins’ “kidnapping” situation with Victor Newman (Eric Braeden), he brushed all that aside, instantly.

Khalil commented on this pivotal moment in Lily and Cane’s story by saying, “Everything else kind of falls to the wayside. When this comes up, [he’s like], ‘Let’s not even think about [the tension between us]. This is way more important, and I want to be here for you while you’re going through this.’”

Khalil states that Cane’s response to her situation means “everything” to her character. She adds, “It’s like, ‘Oh, wow. This person is really showing how much he has unconditional love for me.’ That’s a big thing for Lily and kind of makes her see him in a different light.”

If Cane ends up being a match and saves Malcolm’s life, which seems like where this storyline is going, could this fast-track a romantic reunion between the two exes?

Khalil notes that she’s unsure if this would happen right away, as Lily would be focused on Malcolm’s recovery first, but did add, “… there’s some really exciting stuff coming up.”
