The Young and the Restless comings and goings reveal a lot more Jack Abbott coming up as the actor has inked a new deal with the soap.

Peter Bergman first joined the cast of The Young and the Restless as a recast Jack Abbott in 1989 after spending most of the 80s playing Dr. Cliff Warner on All My Children. He even made that famous ad that said, “I’m not a doctor, but I play one on TV.” Cliff was a true hero and his true love was Nina Cortlandt (Taylor Miller).

When he made his way over to CBS and Y&R, Bergman took over for Terry Lester in the role of Smilin’ Jack Abbott, also known as Jackie Boy. He was not nearly the good guy Cliff was, but over the decades, Jack has mellowed. Of course, mellowed doesn’t mean completely changed and Jack is constantly falling into old bad habits.

In recent months, Jack got the shock that his long-estranged son, Keemo, had died and that Kemmo provide him with an adult granddaughter without his knowledge. Ally Nguyen (Kelsey Wang) is now living in Genoa City getting to know her Abbott side of the family. She is attracted to Noah Newman (Rory Gibson) and became fast friends with Summer Newman Abbott (Allison Lanier).

Jack is also dealing with the fact that ex-lover Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) is still alive and she seems to manipulate everyone in her path, including Jack. It doesn’t help that they share an adult child together, Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor). This has had Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) seeing red and doing some very Phyllis-like things.

And it turns out Jack doesn’t like those things, which really makes him is own worst enemy. He knows Phyllis and is aware she will do impulsive things and try to claim what she thinks is hers and he supposedly loved her for it anyway. He is the one who pursued her for months, but when she disappointed him, he dumped her as fast as he could, leaving Phyllis furious and Diane amused.
