The Young And The Restless – Eileen Davidson Shares Fave Plot
Eileen Davidson has delighted TV viewers for four decades. But as she looks back on her roles on The Young and the Restless and Days of Our Lives, as well as The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (RHOBH), one TV plot ranks as her favorite. And Eileen told Woman’s World why her Young And The Restless character Ashley Abbott’s battle with breast cancer meant so much to her.
As a result of that plot, fans wrote to Eileen telling her that the storyline encouraged them to care for themselves. For instance, one fan shared, “Ashley got a mammogram. So I’m going to get a mammogram.” And because Davidson’s sister tested positive for the BRCA gene mutation, which raises the risk of breast and ovarian cancers, the fan feedback felt especially meaningful.
Eileen also went through the testing process. And she learned that she also tested positive for the BRCA gene. As a result, she decided to get her ovaries removed. And Davidson explained that she wanted to “do something preventative to ensure I am here for my family as long as I can be.” She and her husband Vincent Van Patten share three sons in their blended family.
Y&R – Eileen Davidson Reveals What Ashley Means
Portraying Ashley on The Young And The Restless since 1983 has become “such a consistent part of my adult life,” revealed Eileen. “It’s a great character who continues to evolve and change. She’s had some mental health issues over the years. I was always hoping they’d bring that back. She has the outer appearance of someone who’s got it all together,” pointed out Eileen.

However, the actress noted that Ashley always seems “one disaster, bad situation or bad breakup away from needing serious mental help. She’s compensating for her innate fears and insecurities.” And Davidson also revealed what the late actor Jerry Douglas, who portrayed Ashley’s TV dad, John Abbott, on Y&R, told her. After Eileen joined the Young And The Restless, she felt worried about her acting skills.
But John told her, “You can’t worry about that when you’re on TV 300 times a year. You’re going to have your bad days, so please don’t be too hard on yourself. You’re not going to hit it out of the park. Just let go and do your best.’” And Eileen shared, “Sometimes I regret some of the things I did. But you have to try your best. That’s certainly what we tell our kids.”
