A lot of things have happened since Peter Bergman joined “The Young and the Restless” as Jack Abbott. Now that he’s celebrating his 30th year on the sudser, the actor shared how his character has evolved and what fans can expect.

Young & The Restless Spoilers – Not Too Excited At First

Bergman admitted that he wasn’t too excited when he learned that the show was doing a stand-alone episode of Jack. At first, he wasn’t in favor because he thought that he’d only bore people. But after shooting the episode, he realized that it was a fun and memorable experience for him. It reminded him of how lucky he was for having the opportunity to be part of the show and for meeting good friends.

The actor also revealed that he had no input about the stand-alone episode. One of the show’s producers, Elizabeth Braun, and the writers set everything up. So, when he received the script, his only concern was if people will find it interesting. He then realized that it was a “powerful experience” for him.

After filming the episode, he admitted that he got really emotional. He was scheduled to have an interview with Entertainment Tonight. The part when he had to say “Later, on Entertainment Tonight,” was the time when he could not stop crying. So he ended up looking strange and red-eyed during his interview.

When asked about how they chose the best scenes for the flashbacks, he said, “Oh, it was no small chore. I felt incredibly grateful that this was important to anyone and that kind of effort went into it. It was a colossal effort to comb through years of tape to find the right things.”

Going back to when he first played the role, Bergman said his alter ego “was a carefree cad who didn’t care a lot about other people’s feelings unless he was related to them, and even those people, he was willing to be manipulative with.”

At first, he lacked empathy but the life, love, and loss allowed his character to become more empathetic.

    I love Jack, he is so classy and despite his mistakes he tries to do better and be better. Jack is an inspiring character. I have loved some of the emotional storylines with Jack and Dina, they are fabulous on screen together. Great work Mr Bergman.
