The Young And the Restless News Update: Y&R Alum Abby Dalton Dead At 88

CBS The Young and the Restless spoilers share the sad news that The Young and the Restless alum Los Angeles actress Abby Dalton (Lydia Summers) has passed away. According to the Hollywood Reporter, she died in Los Angeles at the age of 88 on November 23, following a long illness.

Dalton appeared in Genoa City, Wisconsin in 1995 as Phyllis Summers’ (Michelle Stafford) mother, Lydia. Dalton was a Las Vegas native and had a major role as Julia Channing Cumson on Falcon Crest.

Dalton was perhaps best known to soap viewers as Julia Channing Cumson on the 80s primetime soap, Falcon Crest. On the nighttime soap, Dalton played the daughter of actress Jane Wyman’s character Angela Channing. She also played the onscreen mother to Lorenzo Lamas whom daytime fans will remember as Hector on the CBS sudser The Bold and the Beautiful.

Dalton was seen on Falcon Crest from 1981-1986. Her character was quite the dramatic train wreck and in the end, it was learned that her murderous impulses were a result of the emotional abuse inflicted by her mother. Over the course of her appearances, Julia was imprisoned and sent to a mental hospital for treatment. At one point she was presumed dead but in the end, Julia was living in a convent.

In addition to her soap work, Dalton starred on The Joey Bishop Show and as Calamity Jane in Hennesey. She was also a regular on several game shows including The $25,000 Pyramid, Password, Match Game, and Body Language.

Dalton is survived by her husband Jack D. Smith, her daughter Kathleen Kinmont, sons Matthew and John, grandchildren Mac, Jack and Ayden Grace, and great-grandson Mathias.
