How great would it be if Jill (Jess Walton) was a full-time resident on ‘The Young and the Restless’? Walton’s return to regular contract status would enable the legendary actor to steal every scene she’s in. Y&R, why not make the offer?
Any suggestions that there isn’t enough cast money available, or that the actor may not want to work as much would miss the point of the question that’s being asked. This poll question wants to know if the fans, the people whose presence determines ratings, advertising rates, and Y&R’s ongoing existence, want to see Jill become a regular character again.
Walton joined the cast in 1988, following the original Jill (Brenda Dickerson, 1973-1980, 1983-1987), Bond Gideon (1980), and Deborah Adair (1980-1983). Walton’s drop to recurring status happened within the last few years, which was not welcomed by her fans, or of great acting in general.
Jill represents a link to Y&R’s glory days when Katherine (played by the late, infinitely great Jeanne Cooper) graced the daytime screen. The many Katherine-Jill battles are legendary, as to was their eventual reluctant bond after Phillip (Donnelly Rhodes) died.
Kate Linder (Esther) now ranks as the only actor remaining who was part of Y&R’s cast during its debut season in 1973. While not nearly as epic, Jill’s persistent verbal barbs with “Dingy” (Jill’s term), remain delicious. They also share a fond bond in fiercely missing Katherine. As they would surely agree, there hasn’t been, isn’t, and will never again be anyone like the ‘Grande Dame’ again.
Soap operas intend to tug heartstrings. Honoring tradition and those who were part of it, not living in the past, is a major part of the genre.
So, if it’s possible, let’s bring this character back full-time. And if this is just a dream, well then seeing the great Jess Walton play Jill as often as possible will have to suffice.
Fans of ‘The Young and the Restless’ rightfully express their opinions on a regular basis. So, should Jess Walton become a regular on Y&R again? Please vote in our poll below!
