Viewers of The Young and The Restless will recall that Chance took off his watch and ring, and they were found among the rubble of the safe house in Spain where he and his team were to have been staying. In Victor Newman’s (Eric Braeden) words, the place was blown to smithereens and any human remains would be very difficult to identify. Christine Blair (Lauralee Bell) didn’t indicate even to Victor if any remains had been cleaned off of the ring, although it would have been understandable if she left that fact out when telling Abby Chancellor (Melissa Ordway). Christine wouldn’t have had a reason to sugarcoat anything with Victor, however.

Viewers of The Young and The Restless also know that while Abby doesn’t want to give up hope that Chance may have survived, his not wearing his wedding ring was pretty compelling evidence that he may not have. Abby couldn’t imagine Chance ever taking off his ring. Still, she will be looking for answers as she tells a worried Christine that she’s going to fly to Spain herself to see what became of her husband!

The Young and The Restless spoilers show that Christine found out from her contacts that no one was found alive, and Victor’s sources confirmed that. Still, since the safe house was bombed, any human remains would be very difficult to identify, and Christine told Victor it may take several weeks for any DNA results to come back.

Y&R fans who are familiar with forensic procedures know also that if it was a small building there is a very good chance that remains may be mixed, and it will be difficult for forensic teams to even identify what part belongs to who, or even identify anyone at all for sure! DNA could be mixed among the remains, and certainly could be contaminated. That would leave only dental records to go by, and that is saying if any intact skulls with teeth are found; unattached teeth only prove someone lost their teeth! It is uncertain how many were on Chance’s team as well, as that fact has not been revealed.

There is one possibility that makes sense for Chance to have taken off his ring and left his watch willingly – if he had been compromised and knew it, and fled the building before it was bombed. He would have warned his team also if possible, but if the bomb was discovered right before it went off, perhaps the rest of them – or maybe one or two others – could have escaped before it blew!

The Young and the Restless spoilers hint Chance wouldn’t leave his team to die if he could have helped it, but the bombing did take place at night according to Christine. If Chance found the bomb before it went off but there was too little time to remove it or diffuse it, he would have assumed he and his team had been compromised and had just enough time to remove his ring and watch in order to fake his death to protect his family, and any remaining team members had they made it out.

If that indeed is the case, he may have to lay low for a while in order to make sure the people they were trying to take down were taken down! As far as Abby coming to look for him, that is the last thing he would want her to do!
