Josh Griffith Bids Adieu To GC
The Young and the Restless spoilers remind fans that Griffith has been the head writer during this latest run with the show since 2019.
According to a TV Insider report, the daytime drama’s cast and crew learned about Griffith’s departure on Friday, June 26.
Griffith entered the soap writing industry in 1988 when he wrote for Santa Barbara. He moved on to become One Life to Live’s (OLTL) associate head writer, eventually moving to co-head writer in 1992.
He left OLTL in 1994 and hopped over to Sunset Beach, a show he co-created with Robert Guza Jr. In addition, Griffith has also had writing roles in As the World Turns (ATWT), as well as Days of Our Lives (DOOL), and General Hospital (GH).
Griffith’s Time On The Y&R
Still, Griffith initially joined The Young and the Restless in 2006, holding various titles during his tenure from breakdown writer to creative consultant, as well as head writer, co-executive producer, and executive producer.
Griffith left the show initially, only to return in 2018 as supervising producer. After Mal Young departed from the daytime drama as head writer in 2019, Griffith was given the job and has been in the role since.
At one point in time, he was both executive producer and head writer, but recently, Sally McDonald was given the EP job to allow Griffith to solely focus on writing for the show.
As per TV Insider, Griffith will remain as head writer for now, and “There is no word yet on who will be tapped as his successor.”
During his soapy writing career, Griffith has won seven Daytime Emmy awards.
